2007 was a big year for FEMA Girls and FEMA Teens.  In addition to becoming skillful martial artists, FEMA students built remarkable character as well.  Community service, fundraising, teaching, performing... they did a lot!

FEMA Girls

Community Outreach:

FEMA Girls got outside in their yearly spring neighborhood clean-up effort.

Fund Raising, Demos and Camp:

• Girls bowled their hearts out and looked good doing it for the annual FEMA Bowl-a-thon
• The FEMA Girls class was represented at Special Training and were part of the ST youth and FEMA portions of the demo.
• The Girls class put on a play (with Judo!) for FEMA's 18th Anniversary demo.

FEMA Teens FLY (FEMA Leadership Youth)

Community Outreach:

• Hosted the Sister Circle from the East St. Paul YMCA during FLY class. The FLY class spoke to other teen girls about martial arts training and taught them agility exercises, basic punches and kicks.
• Hosted the P6 group after school one evening. The FLY class spoke to teen girls in a pregnancy prevention program about their martial arts training and taught them agility exercises, basic punches and kicks in our 2+ hour class. We also had dinner afterwards and shared some great conversation.
• FLY was on TV! The teen show “Whatever”, filmed and aired a piece on the FLY class and the 5 Fingers of Self Defense.

Fund Raising, Demos and Camp:

• FLY bowled their hearts out and looked good doing it for the FEMA Bowl-a-thon
• Several teens were able to make the trip to Special Training in TX and were part of the ST youth and FEMA portions of the demo.
• FLY produced its version of West Side Story in the 18th Anniversary demo.

Belt Tests:

• Kylie and Stephanie were promoted to purple belts in February.
• Emma, Anna, Adrienne, Talia and Fresa were promoted to yellow belts in September.
• Taylor joined FLY in June and was promoted to a purple belt in December.
